TAKING YOUR TODDLER TO THE THEATER DOESN’T HAVE TO BE TERRIFYING

Vital Theatre Company, creators of the 19-year Off-Broadway hit Pinkalicious The Musical, returns
with Calling All Toys, a shush-free, 55-minute birthday party built for kids who can’t sit still
and parents who need a win.

New York, NY. Here’s a thing no press release ever admits. Bringing a two-year-old to the theater is a gamble. Will they sit? Will they cry? Will you spend the whole show crouched in the aisle mouthing “I’m so sorry” to strangers?

Vital Theatre Company built Calling All Toys around that exact fear.

The show runs exactly 55 minutes. No intermission, no sensory spiral. Kids aren’t audience members, they’re guests at a birthday party, invited to shout, participate, and wave magic wands. There are no shushes. Staff have been known to hand-deliver replacement wands to children still crying on the way home. And if your family doesn’t love it, Vital offers a full money-back guarantee. No questions, no hassle.

“They’ve thought about all the little things that might be a challenge in taking young kids to the theater,” one parent wrote.

The show itself is genuinely charming. Alexis is a birthday girl who has everything and appreciates nothing, until her toys come to life and make her trade places with them. With the audience’s help and a magic phrase (wizardly wobbly!), she figures out that kindness isn’t optional. It’s funny, musical, and sneakily teaches empathy to ages 2 through 7 without ever feeling like a lesson.

Calling All Toys originally ran during Vital’s 2002/2003 season. It’s back for the first time in over twenty years, from the same creative team behind Pinkalicious The Musical, now in its 19th year Off-Broadway and produced around the world.
